Mareeba Heritage Museum and Tourist Information Centre

Gain an insight into the region's history and attractions by visiting the Mareeba Heritage Museum and Tourist Information Centre.

The displays are housed in a Heritage Style Museum which includes a small shop selling local produce, books, souvenirs and art and crafts. Wide, cool verandahs have benches for enjoying a refreshing drink.

The facility has a large back yard with a unique, one of its kind Rail Ambulance, a Historic Railway Carriage and a workable Blacksmith shop.

Free tourist maps and information on the Mareeba and Tableland regions are provided at the Centre. Visitors can gain expert information on what to see and do.

Plenty of parking space, wide cool verandahs, with wheelchair access and clean toilets are available.

Mareeba Historic Displays
Many visitors call into the museum for Tourist Information, then spend considerable time there because it's an attraction in itself with its intriguing displays.

The Museum has twenty three displays including an extensive Aboriginal cultural display, a settler's hut showcasing historical memorabilia, turn-of-the-century telephone exchange, a printing press and a motor rail ambulance.

There are also displays on industries such as timber, tobacco, dairy, mining and communications. The latest and largest display created and completed in 2012, is on the tobacco industry from 1930 to 2004.

Volunteers in period costumes mingled with static displays at the Mareeba Heritage Centre on Saturday, 9th June, 2012.

The museum, which chronicles the growth of the area from its Aboriginal origins through to the early days of the last century, was picked as one of 16 organisations across Queensland to be sponsored by the Government to celebrate Queensland week.

Metal working, tobacco stringing, tin panning, olden day childrens' games and even cooking from yesteryear were featured at the free day.
