The diversity and depth of the Mareeba Heritage Museum Collections owes much to the generous donations of individuals and organisations. Donations help build and enrich the Museum collections’ and ensures Mareeba’s history and stories are preserved for the benefit of all Australians today and for the future. How are donation offers assessed? The Museum follows a Collections Policy that provides guidelines for all aspects of collection management for the Mareeba Heritage Museum. Acceptance of donations is guided by relevance, significance, provenance and documentation, condition and integrity, interpretative and educational potential, rarity, representativeness, duplication and legal requirements. Mareeba Heritage Museum will only collect material culture from the Mareeba Shire Council area (and the former Woothakata Shire region) that illustrates these histories.
Collection of any of items will depend on storage and display options available (there is limited space for large agricultural machinery). Items for display purposes must be sufficiently robust to withstand our local tropical conditions. The collection of textiles and photographs especially will be subject to suitable storage conditions with particular attention paid to criteria. Please Note: The acceptance of donations is subject to inspection by our museum curator on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
