On the second Wednesday of the month between May and September visit the Museum to listen to the Rail Ambulance humming contentedly to itself, when idling (approx. 5-10mins). Chat with an enthusiast about the make and model of the AEC engine and explanation of running the Ambulance.
Built in 1926, the number of patients carried by this ambulance between 1949 and 1983 was 300 and the total miles traveled – 37,275. Rail Ambulances were on a speed limit of 20 m.p.h. and at one time it was dropped to 15 m.p.h. Only seven Rail Ambulances exist today!
