This newly completed project, titled “PLACEMAKING:  Brought to you by Art”, is brought to the community by the Mareeba Heritage Centre and partially funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund 2020-2021, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Mareeba Shire Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

The project is about creating shared value and strengthening the connection between people and the places we share.  The result is a marvelous composition of Emerald Creek Falls that draws attention to one of Mareeba’s must see natural attractions.

The project capitalized on connecting acclaimed artist, Tom Cosic, and the community by developing a space to broaden community engagement with the arts.  The project allowed visitors to observe the skills and techniques used by the Artist during completion of the composition.  A collaborative approach that in turn inspires our local community and visitors and draws their attention to a public art location that celebrates Mareeba as a unique tourist destination.

This mural is located on the back deck at the Mareeba Heritage Museum and Visitor Information Centre.
